Monday Catch up

Today started early here and I was up for 8;00am.  Should have been 6;00am but overslept.   it was cold overnight here, a slight frost but the sun is out so all is right with the world. Washing up done. Front garden cleared of stuff to go to the tip. Hedge trimmed Windows washed Washing machine on Garden de-weeded Just sat down for a cup of tea before I start again.  Have a load more stuff to do in the dining room. i am not cooking tonight. Sourdough starters will need feeding Need to start wholemeal/Rye starters. So off we go into the dining room again.   Have under the dresser to sort out and wash and get all the crockery put back so I can close the door. Some of the stuff under there should be in the kitchen so will try and get it in.  That will free  up space for some more of my glassware.  Cupboard under the stairs needs finishing.  Did what I could for now.  Will out it at the end of the week and clean and decorate out and get...

Attacking the dining room

......it has been the Dining room's turn for a good scrub out today and as I have currently got my tumble drier in here, it has been slightly re-sited to making getting in and out easier.  In reality this is not really a dining room but a journey through room and the room where stuff gets left.  I also have my larder fridge in here.  There is just no room in the kitchen for a proper sized fridge or indeed a tumble drier or a freezer.  The kitchen is that tiny and then there is a downstairs bathroom tacked on the end.  There is also no room in bathroom come to that and so you have to make the best of what you have.  This room is going to have to be re-papered soon, will get to it shortly.  That will be another learning curve for me.   I am quite happy at stripping down have done that lots in the past, just never actually wallpapered. Currently having a five minute sit down before I commence again.  Also put some more stuff in the cu...

General Catchup

Another busy week, here with tidying and sorting.  It still has to go on though and I need as much as I can to be done before the beginning of March.   Friday I have received my surgery appointment through for then, which is a couple of weeks away.  As I will be incapacitated for a few days after surgery I want things to be as sorted as they can be.  The appointment has come through quickly which in one sense I am very pleased about, but I am a little apprehensive. I have to have a telephone health assessment before surgery with a Nurse before then.  I do not need to attend the hospital which is a blessing.  Then three days before surgery, I have to go for a Covid test at the hospital and if clear will then have to isolate until the day of surgery.  So at least some progress has been made and then once this is resolved will hopefully be able to get myself a lot fitter.  I have lost a lot of weight, but I could do with losing a bit more. I am ...

I am getting Dottier and Dottier

Well my memory that is.  I have found just recently that it is better for me to write things down as otherwise they just do not get done at all. I have a long list of things I need to get through over the next couple of days and there is a lot to do.  In fairness I have already done a couple of items and I have denoted these in colour to make things a bit easier. It consists of the following: Get up early at 7:00am.  It is going to be a busy day. Done Make myself pancakes for breakfast. Start handwashing.  All the clothes are sorted into colours and are in a large bin ba g.  Over 20 garments washed and took me an hour and a half in all including the spinning in the washer. (Done) . Spin all the handwashing.  (Done) . Hang all hand knits to dry. (Done) . More washing found and in process of being dealt with. (Done) . Tidy the kitchen. Get ironing done.  A task for the early hours of the morning when I can get on without disturbing neighbours. Make Sourd...

Sourdough Starters with Grapes and Apples Part One

Image
Well I have gone ahead and have a couple of starters on the go for having another bash at Sourdough. I fear that anyone who walks in my kitchen at the moment will see all sorts of bottles on the windowsill and wonder whether they have walked into the Laboratory of a Mad Professor.  Mad as a Box of Frogs I will own up to, quite readily.  They are not all Sourdough though. Although I am predominantly trying to get a few different sourdough starters up and running. Just messing around really to find what I can and cannot do with sourdough. I have gone back to this recipe by Paul Hollywood which is the most successful home made starter I have tried. (I made this starter some 6 years or so ago; it was doing well and then my mum was taken ill and admitted to hospital) so the poor thing died.  So here we go again.  See if I can get to grips with it this time on. A starter can be made from just flour and water as well as these two alternative versions.  I would say from...

The Front Bedroom and Clothes Closet Part Two and Other bits and bobs

Image
The clothes closet is nearly finished. A lot of washing and ironing has been accomplished. It is however not all completed as yet.  Nor are all the clothes back into the closet although quite a lot has already been put back in!  I will pop up a final post when it is all completed. The mirror has yet to be hung, but more or less everything else is done in there.   At the moment I cannot get into the closet again as I am sorting out a load of boxes that have collapsed, sorting out the rubbish and what I want to keep.  I have found loads of UFOs and indeed have pulled down some parted knitted super chunky wool that I had managed to start on two different jumpers with, with only one set of wool (accidents happen). I had worked the backs on both garments!  Oohps.  Both different patterns (bigger Oohps). So I just now have the wool.  That is all packed into my big wicker basket with other wool and knitting implements, including my wool holder.  Sur...

Does Anyone Still Do Handwashing

Image
.....? Or am I the oddity. As I have been entertained for the past few days in starting to sort out the bedroom, I have been immersed in lots of washing for the past few days.  I had been unable (for quite some time to reach my closet (which used to be the Airing Cupboard) and bring out all my clothes from said closet.  They were a bit dusty.  I was sneezing profusely and so I took the decision to wash the lot. There are a lot of clothes concerned, and this is only one part of my clothing.  I used to have two wardrobes, one for working and one for wearing personally, and a lot of the clothes I have had for many years. Working in a professional practice we always had to look neat and smart at all times. If you look after your clothes you can achieve keeping them for a long time.  I have also scrubbed the closet out within an inch of its life and I am starting to organise it somewhat so that it is like a mini dressing room for me (not that there is much spac...
