Mum's Home-made Baileys Liqueur

Baileys was mum's little treat to herself every so often until she was given this recipe. I believe that this is a recipe that came out within a couple of years of Baileys being launched on the market, so I think it has some age to it. I am not sure where it came from.  I suspect it came from one of the WI ladies as m y mum was a WI Lady as I was both of us for the branch in Deeping St Nicholas.  It is handwritten on a scrap of paper which I found in her cooking folder.  I post this up in case any of you want to try it before I do.  If you do dabble let me know what you think of it. Ingredients: 6 Eggs One Large Tin of Condensed Milk  One Large Tin Evaporated Milk  (More commonly these days you do not see the larger tins, but it is the larger tin that you need for this recipe) One Level Dessertspoon dark grated chocolate One teaspoon of vanilla essence (mine is home made) and a bit pokey. (I used dark Rum as a base and I just top it up every so often). 1/4 ...

Cheese

We are avid Cheese lovers here and we have ordered online for the bulk of our cheese order this year. I was going to pop up a post before now about this but for the best part events have overtaken me so I will probably do a post about this for next year when at least I will be able to speak from experience about the companies used. For this year we have ordered a full Colston Bassett Stilton which will be shared with family.  We have also ordered some Gorgonzola, Bishop Bigod Brie and some vintage Traditional Somerset Cheddar. They are due to arrive over the weekend.   Last night when I was in Waitrose I spotted some Raclette which is quite expensive to buy out of the preprepared Deli counter.  So I texted OH to see if he wanted any and he said yes. It is £18 per kilo and I think is a better way to buy it.  OH loves Raclette and during the sort out in the kitchen I have located my Raclette Grill which I am pleased about. I think he may be double-happy abo...

Cramp again and Christmas Decs

Image
I had another bad night last night in that I kept getting really painful cramps again. It does not help that I cannot lay on my side for long due to hip pain and so I am predominantly on my back. At the moment it has calmed down a bit but if I get much more I will be making an appointment to see the Doc. I am trying to avoid surgeries at the moment for obvious reasons. I did not sleep much as a result and then dropped off when I should have been up and about needless to say I was late up as a result.  So it has been a very steady day although what little bit I have done has been in the kitchen again. Still no news on my tumble dryer apart from that it is going to be nearer the 18 December before I can book a delivery.  Never mind these things are sent to try us but in reality could do without this.  Still managing to get stuff dry though. so we have crispy towels at the moment! I had an issue with the washing machine the other day which needed OH's intervention.  Tha...

Tuesday Catch Up

I was in the kitchen again yesterday until I had to get out as had been in there far too long. I needed some more cleaning stuff and so I trotted off to Waitrose by Shank's Pony and also went to Wilkos as well as I thought that they might have some storage boxes that I am after.  Unfortunately on this occasion they did not have any.  No worries will keep checking. They will have some eventually and I will be able to get some and then get organised a bit more.  I thought I would check as it would have saved some duplication of work.   It will happen eventually. I managed to pick up some clips from the kitchen section at Wilkos.  They are not for kitchen duty though.  I thought that they would be very useful for my patchwork and also with the embroidery at holding the excess fabric back out of the way.  I did have a look at the winemaking/beer making department but they had very little in there today.  I shall look again the next time I g...

One thing Leads to Another - A little Baking Terrys Chocolate Orange

Image
You know how it is, one thing leads to another.  Recently, I was doing a little shopping, browsing the sweet counter when I espied some mini chocolate orange segments on offer at £1 a bag.  I had recently seen a recipe for chocolate orange buns so nabbed a couple of bags to Squirrel away in anticipation of making the same. These are going to be made as part of the Christmas baking as something different, my new different recipe for this year.  That has been the plan all along. Snuggled next to the orange segments alongside of them on the same shelf was the white version.  I had to pay full price for these at £2 per bag, but in reality I am a white chocolate fan.  I also thought that I could make a Victoria Tray bake in chocolate, spread buttercream on the top and decorate with the orange slices.  That is before I went researching on the Internet. I enclose various links for various different recipes and different decorating ideas in case you also want to ha...

Work still continues

....in the kitchen although OH has been doing some work and I have been called to assist him several times throughout the day which means I have not got on as well as I would have hoped.  I have had the washing machine on for the next loads of washing, now to get towels dry without a tumble dryer.  Still have a load more washing to do, but that will happen a bit at a time throughout the week.  Still waiting for further information re the delivery of my replacement tumble dryer which is coming direct from Hotpoint. Tea went down very nicely.  Our sorting out between us during the day has meant that we have accumulated more waste and OH is going to the tip tomorrow to get rid of this.  No doubt there will be more as work carries on. I am just about to go downstairs to complete more work in the kitchen.  Can only keep plodding at it, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  I have some appliances to wash down this evening and then take out of...

Still on Kitchen Duty

Still working my butt off in the kitchen.  slow going but everything is being washed and reorganised. I had to nip out earlier for more bin bags as I had run out. Whilst there found some Brie which had been reduced so that with some Redcurrant Jelly or Cranberry Sauce in sarnies or buns will make a welcome midday snack either for today or tomorrow.  We like Brie ripe which is not everybody's cup of tea. Food does not have to be complicated and often the simplest dishes are the best.  Tonight for instance we are having a coil of Cumberland sausage cooked in a toad.  served with mashed potato and onion gravy should be a good comfort style meal to warm us up from the inside out. Tomorrow we have Barnsley chops with veggies snd gravy. Wednesday will be an Oxtail soup.  I bought Oxtail at the weekend so will probably start that tomorrow in the Ninja Foodie. I want to start experimenting a bit more with traditional English food and get back to my roots and prope...
