Well the Second Greenhouse

Saturday Night  ...has now been put up by G. I cleared all the rubbish bags down in order that he could put the greenhouse up. He put it up for me last night.  Need to get the slabs down to hold it down now.  We have found in the past that the first greenhouse we put up thought it was Mary Poppins in one of the storms we had!  No Parrot umbrella handle though!  Will only be a temporary arrangement as the greenhouses will be moved in front of the glass greenhouse where the base of the big Cherry tree is the slabs will then be laid properly.  That part of the garden is riddled with Ivy and tree roots and therefore not really suitable for growing in so might as well use poor land to site something so that the good land can grow something. The greenhouses will be moved at the end of the season, and hopefully after G has managed to recover the bottom part of the garden.  He has been down there and done some chopping.  My water butt is there in any even...

Friday Evening/Saturday Roundup

Last evening I managed to get into my little greenhouse and sow some seeds.  I have set two trays of mixed different lettuces for a pick and come again pick and mix there is a French Mix and also a Spicy mix. I also have some other seeds set - cannot remember what at the moment.  However do have a load more seeds to sow tomorrow. They may not come up will have to wait and see what happens.  I also have plans for sowing some seed direct into planters as well. However I need more compost and quite a bit of it as I will not be able to pot on or grow from scratch. With only the one greenhouse up at the moment things are a bit tight, but once the other house is up that should make things a lot easier, will be a lot tidier.  Once the stone shed is also sorted most of the gardening equipment which is under cover in the greenhouse at the moment can go back in the shed.  Very much swings and roundabouts. Have been in my own peace and quiet out there for over 2 1/2 hours....

Friday Leading into the Weekend

Phew it is a hot un today.  It is a day where I wish I was down in Cornwall, enjoying the countryside and just chilling, that is not going to happen yet more's the pity.  It doesn't stop the wishing though.  After all the hard work of the past few weeks it is very much needed.  I am going to bed earlier than I had been and just sleeping straight through until about Dawn when the light wakes me and then I nod off again before it is time to start again.  Must say that all energies have gone into the front garden and the back garden.  We do still have the front garden to finish off though with the hedge and also with the top being taken out of the Holly tree.  I think the Hedge might get done next, but the top of the Holly tree is going to have to be taken out when it is quieter as we do live on a main run through traffic wise so probably later of an evening to take it out. I have not been out in the heat in the middle part of the day today keeping to the...

Still working in the Garden

Image
G ended up clearing a load more overgrown brambles etc this morning and there is only one small clump left to clear.  I am out there pootling, trying to get all the broken stems and rubbish including Ivy runners out of the ground and it is a slow old job.  Tedious but it needs doing.  I am also removing any other rubbish I find as I go along.  No doubt I will be going over this ground again for a further removal session but I am taking what I can get hold of out at the moment.  There are roots etc. to be killed off and also dug out of the ground.  Once all that kind of work is done I can then start on the digging.  However, this is slow old work and there will not be any quick results.  I am getting rid of the garbage though.  I am now up to about 15 bin bags full of rubbish that needs to go to the tip. Hopefully will be going tomorrow to take this in order to see what we have actually achieved.  I am going to be in the garden again for ...

In the fresh air

Out in the garden bundling up a lot of the clippings into bags.  I have managed to fill about 8 so far and there is still an awful lot more to deal with but am slowly getting there.  I have been at it for most of the afternoon, so as I say nice to be in the fresh air rather than cooped up inside. Doesn't look as though things are progressing that much but it is, a lot of effort and energy has gone into doing what has been done.  It will all come together at the end when there will be a visible difference and I will have my garden back and hopefully will get into the growing things again.   We do have a jungle at the bottom of the garden which G says he is going to attempt to sort out a bit once the main part of the garden has been sorted.  Would be good to get this sorted and probably have more growing ground as well once it has been cleared. We are concentrating on the garden mostly at the moment weather prevailing.  Yesterday was a no go really for m...

Well the day has certainly gone quickly

I have had my yearly eyesight appointment where they have carried out the normal testing and I have also paid out for the deeper scan where they take snapshots of the back of your eyeball, so that they can keep tabs on what is going on with the eye.  Having Sjogren's Syndrome (pronounced Show-Grins), can result in eye issues at any time.  As I have very dry eyes anyway as a result of this, I have to use artificial teardrops to keep my eye moisturised and functioning correctly.  As I suspected, I now have distance issues as well as close work issues. I have been having blurred vision occasionally and apparently this is to do with the distance issue changing apparently.  The close work is pretty much the same but I do not see so well into the distance these days.  Please therefore, if you see me and I do not speak,  I am not ignoring you, just not seeing you so please do not take the hump.  I do not see anything really without my glasses these days...

Ivy Wrangling

Image
Well it has been another afternoon in the garden.  Now trying to tame the overgrown Ivy area in front of the greenhouse door.  It is a b..... if I do say so.  A lot has come in over the fence from next door and has welded itself to the fence.  I have slowly and laboriously been peeling this away quite successfully.  I have with some of the roots in the ground ended up pulling and ending up flat on my bum!  It is slow work and tedious but it will be a job well done.  I have also managed to clear all the pots etc that were in front of the greenhouse as well.  Still a lot to do.  Photos below show the Ivy up the fence. To this Meanwhile, G has had another session at some of the brambles.  He is taking them down a bit at a time, and then I am going out and getting all the vegetation into a big heap to dry it out a bit before bagging it and taking it to the tip.  It is going to take a few days yet.  One of the reasons we are g...
